So I've had this game a while, however the only thing it has done as of late was rest on my shelf and gather dust. Though yesterday I started playing it again, and so I have decided to write up a review. I'm going to try keep it brief as possible!
SOCOM: Confrontation got some pretty nasty reviews when it was first tried and tested by the critics, mainly because the game was plagued with bugs, lacked many features which it advertised, had barely any maps and so was seen as a failure by many of the franchise's craving fans. Two years later and I am happy to say the game has improved - but is it still a game worth playing?
SOCOM: Confrontation is basically a third-person, online multiplayer-only, tactical shooter where players can choose to play as some of the world's most famous special forces teams including US Navy SEALs, British SAS and German KSK.
Once you start the game you will be asked to customize your Commando and Mercenary characters. After you have created your characters, you will then be able to send them into the battlefield and wage war against enemy players.
The Positives
Graphics
The graphics in the game aren't quite amazing, but they're not poor either. They're on par with many other games of the same generation. Muzzle effects, smoke, buildings and sand are all rendered beautifully. However, explosions and rocket trail look quite bland and last-gen.
Customization
Players get to customize the main features of their commando and mercenary characters, including armor, camouflage, head gear, skin colour, facial hair, and of course; weapons. Weapons can also be kitted out to fit up to two attachments, including scopes, grips, lasers and silencers.
If a player decides to create a clan, they will be prompted to choose which special forces unit to base it on. Depending on who they choose, the player will be able to unlock the force's respected exclusive items. I chose British Special Air Service and so the SAS Beret, SA80, British Camo and SAS Armor were unlocked and available for me to use. However, if I were to choose to play as a French special forces unit, the Famas assault rifle would be unlocked. If you do decide to create a clan, don't worry, the game will not force you to recruit members, and you will not be forced to join other clans either.
Maps
Though there aren't many (not enough for a game that's multiplayer-only) the maps in the game are of high
